Fitness Area
The Carbondale Recreation Center offers you a variety of equipment in our strength and conditioning area and outdoor exercise area including cardiovascular equipment, weight machines, and free weight equipment. Our cardiovascular equipment consists of treadmills, ellipticals, upright & recumbent bikes, and the Lemond Revmaster Cycles used for cycling classes. We also offer you a number of weight machines for major and minor muscle groups. The free weight area has a power rack, smith machine, decline adjustable bench, 3 adjustable benches, dumbbells ranging from 1 lb. to 100 lbs., among a plethora of other items.
Group Fitness
The Carbondale Recreation Department offers a fun and varied schedule of fitness classes taught by certified, experienced and motivating instructors. You can participate in two ways:
- Drop-in classes that are included with your membership
- Specialty Classes that are progressive in nature

Check out our Specialty Classes page for information on how you can receive additional instruction from our highly certified trainers and instructors. These classes are an additional cost, but are still extremely affordable!
Personal Training
Our personal trainers are highly certified strength and conditioning professionals. The personal trainers work as independent contractors, have the ability to set their own schedule, and will help you to develop and or improve your exercise routine. The one-on-one personal training allows you to choose the instructor and time package that best fits your needs. Personal trainers can provide fitness goal setting, nutritional guidance, weight training outlines, sport specific training, balance and flexibility training.

SilverSneakers Muscular Strength & Range of Movement

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance; and a chair is used for seated and standing support.

Yoga Classes

Great Combo workout starting with 30 minutes of cardio followed by 30 minutes of total body sculpting using the Pilates method that restores muscular balance while strengthening and stretching the body focusing on ones abs and back. This class is included in your membership!

SilverSneakers YogaStretch
Oct 2 – May 30 | 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
YogaStetch will move your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered to safely perform a variety of postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity.

Integrative Stretching

This class synthesizes contemporary schools of somatic body work such Alexanderand Feldenkrais techniques, Kinetic Awareness, Edu-K, polarity balancing, and Barteniff’s approaches to time, space, and energy. We gently realign the body, strengthen the core, and increase range of motion through conscious movement and breathing.

Absolutely Core
Feb 1 – May 31 | 06:30 AM – 07:30 AM
Your core is the foundation of strength for your entire body. This class targets the abs and back using balance balls, free weights, and resistance bands. It is an intensity-satisfying workout that challenges both balance and strength helping increase coordination and improving one’s posture. Exercises are modifiable to all fitness levels.
