The Town of Carbondale strives to offer a wide variety of sports programs for youth. The current and upcoming programs are listed below. If you are interested in registering your child(ren) for any of the programs, click on the the links below for more information and to sign up online. Upcoming Youth Programs

One half of the basketball gymnasium will be available for Open Gym activities on Early Release Wednesdays from 2-4pm. Sport options will include basketball, volleyball, and indoor soccer. During Early Release Wednesdays ONLY we will allow kids 7 and up to access Open Gym. (Please note that our normal age rules require anyone 10 years and under to be supervised by someone 11 years and older.)
Additionally, we will be offering Youth ONLY Facilitated Climbing for ages 11 and up. MUST HAVE CLIMBING WALL WAIVER ON FILE. Climbing Wall Certifications available at this time.

Students learn the martial art of Taekwondo, while improving balance, strength, coordination, and flexibility. Taekwondo tenets include: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit. Classes taught by Carbondale Head Instructor, Cedar Rose, certified black belt. Six-month pre-registration discounts available.

Whether you’ve never skated before or want a chance to perfect new tricks, join instructors Chris Johnson and Shawn Frick at the Carbondale Skate Park. Lessons are offered for two different skill groups. Must sign up for full session-each session is 4 lessons.
Must have own skateboard. Helmets MANDATORY. All other safety equipment highly recommended. Please wear appropriate footwear and bring a water bottle.

Spring Into Fun at The Summer Family Block Party on Carbondale’s 1st Friday in May. Enjoy playful activities for the kiddos courtesy of the Carbondale Recreation & Community Center, arts and crafts by the Carbondale Creative District, and meet some of Colorado Animal Rescue’s sweetest adoptables! Live music and prize drawings, and food and drinks will be available to purchase from various local vendors! The lifeguard blended training course provides participants with all the skills necessary to become a certified lifeguard for American Red Cross facilities. All training materials will be included with the course and participants must pass each section with a minimum of 80% to become certified. Total course length is 27 hours (7.5 hours online and 19.5 hours in class/pool). All online training MUST be COMPLETED by the first day of class.

Play ball! Join Carbondale Recreation for some baseball or softball fun this summer. Learn new skills, make new friends, play other town’s teams, and most of all—HAVE FUN!! Please see the age categories below. All ages are determined as of August 1, 2017. Must have own mitt. Uniforms included in fee. All teams are $80/participant.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, APRIL 14. All teams are first come first serve. If a team fills before the registration deadline all additional sign-ups will be placed on a waitlist. So sign up early to ensure a spot on the team! Team maximums will be strongly enforced.
Min/Max: 10/13 (per team) Practice and game schedules will be dependent on coaches’ availability and will be set in May. Practices and regular season games will occur during the week, but tournament games may be played on Saturdays. All communication for all teams will be conducted via email. Please check www.carbondalerec.com for schedules, updates, and additional information. The season will begin the third week of May and end by the third weekend in July.

Bring your bike and helmet and give our bike obstacle course a try! The Bike Rodeo is a fun way for kids to learn basic bike safety and the “rules of the road” while navigating a fun obstacle course. Prizes will be awarded and we will also have bike mechanics from Aloha Mountain Cyclery on hand to show kids how to keep their bikes in tip-top shape.
ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST WEAR A HELMET AND HAVE A WAIVER SIGNED BY A PARENT!!

Beginners: For kids 6 years and older who are new to swimming. They will learn breath-holding and control techniques, movement patterns to change their bodies from vertical to horizontal positions in the water, and will experience an introduction to different swim stroke styles. 30 minute lesson.
Intermediate: For kids 6 years and older who can “swim” forward 15 feet with their face in the water, without a flotation device. You child will move from using equipment and flotation devices (to assist building form, strength, and stamina) to moving unaided in freestyle and backstroke positions. 30 minute lesson.
Advanced: For kids 6 years and older who can swim 1/2 the length of the pool using side breathing techniques. Children will learn to master the 6 basic strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, side stroke, and elementary backstroke). 45 minute lesson.
Jun 7 – Aug 16 | 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM
The next step after the Advanced Youth Climbing Class to hone your technique and strength to climb as best as you can. Pre-requisite: Advanced Youth Climbing Class or instructor approval. Parent or guardian must sign Climbing Wall Waiver prior to child participating in first class.

Learn to take full advantage of the North Face Bike Park!
Work with Coaches John Hartmann, Brian Buell, and others to improve your performance on the bike. Classes will focus on basic skills as well as pumping, jumping and cornering techniques. Open for all levels of riders. Mountain or BMX bikes and helmets are required, and other safety gear is highly recommended. Bikes must be in good working condition and must have functioning brakes.

Activity #1: Spin City: Skate-Tag-Jump-Bowl-Play
Join us for a day in Grand Junction at Spin City. Your child can pick two options from the following list: Roller Skating, Laser Tag, Jump City Inflatable Playland, or Bowling. Check them out online at http://spincitygj.com/.

Activity #2: Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park
Start the day off with a tram ride up to the caverns, then round out the experience with unlimited rides (Alpine Coaster, Giant Swing, 4D Ride Theater, Laser Tag, Bungee Trampoline, Fort WhereAmI Maze, Doc’s Rock climbing wall, Wild West Wagon simulated Conestoga wagon ride, and Demon the Mechanical Bull). ***Parents please sign the Caverns waiver during registration.***

Activity #3: Grand Junction: Get Air at the Silo Trampoline Park
Includes 2 hours of jump time (trampolines, dodgeball, foam pit, and ninja course).

Activity #4: Whitewater Rafting and Carbondale Pool
Get ready to get wet! Splash through the rapids along the Colorado River through the Glenwood Canyon on this 3-hour adventure ride. Then chill out some more at the Carbondale Pool. Please bring a sack lunch, swimsuit, sunscreen, and change of clothes.

Activity #5: Bananas Fun Park
This trip includes 3 hours of unlimited fun at Bananas Fun Park in Grand Junction: Bumper Boats, Laser Tag, Go-Karts, Inflatable Bounce Houses, and Arcade Fun. Pizza and soda will be provided for lunch. Bring extra money for the batting cages and arcade games!
