Carbondale Recreation offers a variety of adult sports programming including: Slow Pitch Softball, Volleyball, Broomball, and Men’s Basketball.

Taekwondo

Jan 3 – Dec 27 | 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM

Students learn the popularmartial art of Taekwondo, while improving balance, strength, coordination, and flexibility.  Classes are designed to meet the needs of all abilities  and levels, from a family activity to competition training.  Taekwondo abides by the tenets: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control, and Indomitable Spirit.  Sahn Taekwondo classes taught by nationally and internationally certified instructors, Ms. Cedar Rose Guelberth, 3rd Dan, and Grand Master Richard Hodder, 9th Dan.  Six-month pre-registration discounts available.

Drop-In Pickleball

Oct 3 – May 31 | 12:00 AM – 12:00 AM

Join us for indoor Drop-In Pickleball this winter and spring at the Carbondale Recreation and Community Center.  We have paddles and balls for use during this time.  Pickleball is a great sport for any ability and any age.  For more information on this fast growing game, check out www.usapa.org.

Climbing Clinics

Jan 8 – May 14 | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Ages: 14 years and up
3-Hour Clinics: Thursdays; $35 Early Registration ($45 late registration)
2-Hour Clinics: Thursdays; $25 Early Registration ($35 late registration)
1-Hour Clinics: Mondays; $15 Early Registration ($20 late registration)
Location: Carbondale Recreation and Community Center Climbing Wall
Min/Max: 4/8
Registration Deadline: Must register one week prior in order to receive early registration discount

Must have current Climbing Wall Waiver on file at the CRCC.  Some clinics also require participants to be Level 2 certified at the CRCC–these certifications happen every Wednesday from 5:30-8:30pm and are included in any day drop-in or membership.

Top-Rope Climbing and Belay Clinic: January 8, February 12, March 12, April 9, May 14 (5:30-6:30pm)
Learning to climb on top-rope is a great way to step into the vertical world of rock climbing, and is a fun way for climbers of all levels to practice technique and gain confidence on the wall. This course will teach you what you need to know to safely climb on top-rope and belay a top-rope climber, or serve as a refresher if you’re looking to solidify your knowledge.

Intro to Rock Climbing for Ladies:  January 11, February 8, March 8, April 12 (6-8pm)
Learn the basics of rock climbing and meet a supportive community of other like-minded ladies to climb with!  Topics include: top rope belaying, climbing technique, safety protocols, and fun activities to get practice and make friends.  Receive Level 2 certification through this class.

Indoor Lead Climbing Certification Clinic: January 18, March 15  (6-9pm)
Learn or refresh your knowledge on lead climbing, lead belaying, and build confidence through practice indoors. Must be Level 2 certified.

Anchor Building and Cleaning Clinic: February 15, April 26 (6-8pm)
Learn and practice several methods of building rock climbing anchors, when to use them, and several methods for cleaning the anchor to retrieve your gear.  Be a better, more knowledgeable climber and partner with this information!  Must be Level 2 certified.

Winter and Spring Cooking Class Series

Jan 22 – May 21 | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Learn how to use water bath canners, pressure canners, and other forms of preserving foods.  This class is a hands on and lecture format with a goodie to take home after every class.  Instructor: Carla Farrand. All classes limited to 10 people and run from 6-9pm.

Cottage Food Safety Class                  Monday, May 21                                   Fee: $25
Get ready to sell your produce at farmers markets.  This class teaches you all you need to know.

Blood Drives

CaptureThe St. Mary’s Bloodmobile will be here every other month from 11:30am-2:30pm throughout 2018.  Mark your calendars now!  You are eligible to donate every 8 weeks.  Please bring a photo ID!  All dates below are Wednesdays.

Lifeguard Recertification

May 5 – May 6 | 12:00 AM – 12:00 AM

Lifeguarding review classes are designed to help you update your skills while also extending your certification for another two years.  The American Red Cross also offers review courses for those who certification is still valid (or within 30 days of expiring).  Total course length is 13 hours.

Time: 8am-5pm on Saturday
Cost: $35
Location: John M. Fleet Pool in Carbondale
Registration Deadline: Monday, April 30

Lifeguard Certification

May 11 – May 13 | 12:00 AM – 12:00 AM

The lifeguard blended training course provides participants with all the skills necessary to become a certified lifeguard for American Red Cross facilities.  All training materials will be included with the course and participants must pass each section with a minimum of 80% to become certified.  Total course length is 27 hours (7.5 hours online and 19.5 hours in class/pool).  Ask about scholarships!  All online training MUST be COMPLETED by the first day of class.

Cost: $150 (Reimbursement of $115 available for program participants who pass the course and are hired and work in good standing through August as lifeguards for the John M. Fleet Pool)

Healthy Shoulder Clinic

Class Size: 6-12

Learn exercises to strengthen the shoulders and back. Having, and maintaining, strong shoulders will help you limit the risk of injury and dysfunction. We will work on strength building exercises and stretches for postural enhancement and bullet-proof shoulders. This class is for all. Reserve your spot now.

 

Pelvic Floor Clinic

The Pelvic Floor is a key area of our bodies that rarely gets a mention from fitness experts or PT’s yet it affects back and hip health as well sexual and elimination functions. This class will educate and then provide some great exercises to keep your pelvic floor in tip top shape.

Bonedale Bike Jam

May 19 – May 19 | 09:30 AM – 2:30 PM

The 4th Annual free ride contest at Carbondale’s bike park.  From Striders to Pros, there will be many divisions and contests. Pump track time trials, best trick jam sessions, and more!  Parent or guardian must sign waiver for participants under 18 years old.  Available day of or on our website.

Bonedale Sk8 Revival (Skateboard Competition)

Jun 8 – Jun 9 | 12:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Join us at the North Face Sk8 Park for our Bonedale Sk8 Revival Skateboard Competition.  Register online for $10 in advance or $15 day of from 10am-11am at the Park (cash/check ONLY day of).  All participants under 18 will need a parent to sign the liability waiver.  Helmets mandatory for all participants under 18 years.  All other safety equipment is strongly recommended.  The contest will take place Saturday, June 9.  On Friday, June 8 we will have prize giveaways and open skate sessions for kids!

Adult Swim Lessons

NEW CLASSES FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN GARDENING!  We are offering a 3-part gardening series this summer.  We are encouraging individuals and families to join; children 6 or older please.  The class is appropriate for new and experienced gardeners.  $10 per participant per class or $25 per participant for the 3-part series!

Pollinator Gardening
There are THOUSANDS of pollinators in North America.  Pollinators (like butterflies and bees) are vital to our food supply, because they pollinate so many of our favorite fruits and veggies!  Learn about all the different types of pollinators you can find in the garden, why they are declining, and what you can do to make a better pollinator habitat in your landscape.

Bugs in the Garden
Did you know that 99% of all the bugs in your garden are either beneficial or harmless?  Learn about all the different types of bugs you can find in your own backyard!  In this class you will get to know some of the insects and spiders in your landscape, and the role they play in the ecosystem.  You will get a better understanding of the pests, how to identify them, and environmentally responsible ways to manage them.

Harvesting Your Garden
The best part about having a vegetable garden is when you get to enjoy the delicious homegrown goodies as a result!  Learn how to effectively harvest your garden and how to store it to maximize its shelf-life.  Includes basics of canning as a way to store produce from harvest.

Pickleball Tournament

Sign up to play or just plan on stopping in to watch and see what all the fuss is about. Pickleball is a fun recreational sport similar to tennis (it’s played on a smaller court with a wiffle ball and a paddle instead of a racket).
